Debunking Lash Extension Myths by Cora Kauffman

Wanting lash extensions but scared of the negative side effects? Most of the supposed side effects I’ve heard are myths; and if there is some truth, usually any harm can be avoided. Let’s clear up some of the common misconceptions I’ve heard and get you on your way to full, beautiful lashes. Here are some of the most common myths we’ve heard and how to combat the negative:

  1. “They ruin your natural lash health”

This is completely false. Lash extensions are singular, tiny fibers glued onto each natural lash. If you're going to get lashes, make sure you go to a knowledgeable esthetician. You should NEVER see two or more lashes glued together- This is the perfect scenario for your natural lashes to get damaged by improper application from the lash artist. You should also try your hardest not to pick at or rub your lashes. I know it’s hard, but this can also lead to degradation of your natural lashes. Not in any circumstances, should you ever try to remove your own extensions. This is a recipe for disaster for your natural lashes. Always go to your lash artist to have them fully removed without pain or damage.

2. “Never wash your lash extensions”

Cleansing your lashes is one of the most important portions of a homecare routine and should be done twice a day. Many people think washing them will make them fall out, but it does the exact opposite. Not doing so will cause a build up of dirt, oil, and debris in the lashes, causing the extensions to fall out early. Your lash artist should suggest a lash safe, foam cleanser,

3. “Lash extensions don't last”

If you've ever had lash extensions, you know the fear of finding one of your lashes sitting on the bathroom counter or on your pillow in the morning. That is completely normal! Your lashes have a natural shedding cycle, on an average day, we lose about four natural lashes. With that being said, unfortunately, the lash extension glued to it falls out with the natural lash. This is why we get lash extension fills! It's crucial to be diligent about scheduling your fill appointments every 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes looking full and fresh.

4. “Lash extensions can be done at home”

The reason lash extensions stay on for so long is because we use a very strong and professional adhesive. Here at The Reset Room, we take the extra time and care to ensure everything is placed correctly, so there is no risk of getting adhesive fumes in the eye. Attempting this process at home will almost always end with a chemical burn. Be sure to go to a trained lash professional to keep your lashes, and more importantly, your eyes safe!
